This seemed like a perfect gift for a five year old. We received it and my husband inserted the 8 AA batteries it requires. Once they were all in, the game was on (we could tell because the fan was running and shooting air through the holes on the playing surface). Unfortunately, even when we turned it off using the on/off switch, it didn't turn off. We had to manually take out a battery in order for it to turn off. This wouldn't have been such a big deal, except the batteries are under a cover that you must screw off, so that would have been a hassle. We returned it immediately.
